VESTAL, N.Y. (July 20, 1:15 p.m. ET) -- National Pipe & Plastics Inc. is considering an expansion to move production from its headquarters plant in Vestal to nearby Endicott, N.Y., according to local news reports.

The company also has a facility in Colfax, N.C., and makes PVC pipe ranging from one-half inch to 24 inches in diameter.

The Press & Sun-Bulletin said National Pipe recently filed plans for a $15 million expansion of a vacant building it owns that had been occupied by Shop-Vac, which moved out in 2008.

The firm would put in a road, raise the roof to accommodate silos, and put in a storage space and a storm-water retention basin. National Pipe did not respond to requests for comment.

Some residents have voiced concerns about the new facility, which would need several permit approvals.
